Edward Stone was born in 1940. He studied mural painting at Hammersmith College of Art. Since then he has had a variety of jobs, including working on oil tankers, and as an art therapist. He first painted in watercolour, but began painting seriously in oils in the 1970’s. From 1980 onwards he has contributed to various themed exhibitions, at the Francis Kyle Gallery in London.
Edward has also had a series of successful one-man exhibitions, at the Francis Kyle Gallery, in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1997, 2000 and 2003. He has been twice short listed for the BP Portrait award. Humphrey Stone was born in 1942. He learned his typographic skills both by working at the Oxford University Press, and by spending a year ‘sitting at the feet’ of Giovanni Mardesteig in Verona. He later worked at the publishers Chatto & Windus and Weidenfeld & Nicolson. He went to the United States and became an assistant designer under P.J. Conkwright at The Princeton University Press. Then he became art director for Stanford University Press in California. He moved back to England and became design director at the Compton Press. He has worked as a freelance typographic designer since 1979. He has designed many books, among them the three volume Robert & Lisa Sainsbury Collection, . Humphrey lives in Wiltshire.

           
               

Phillida Gili was born in 1944. She graduated from St Martin's School of Art in 1968. She has since worked as an illustrator and writer, mainly of books for children. With her late husband Jonathan Gili she founded Warren Editions, an independent publishing company specialising in illustrated limited editions. She has more recently devised, written and illustrated several pop-up books. The latest to be published was 'Cinderella' for Bloomsbury Books. Her book 'The 'Lost Ears' was republished recently in a 25th anniversary edition by Boxer Books.
Phillida has written a short history of pop-ups and paper engineering; she also lectures and takes classes in the subject. She is represented by the Laura Cecil literary agency. (www.lauracecil.co.uk). Phillida lives in London.

 

Emma Beck was born in 1952. She studied art history at the University of East Anglia. In 1980 she organised a retrospective exhibition on Reynolds Stone at the Dorset County Museum. In 1982 she curated an expanded version of the exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. She subsequently reorganised the exhibition again for The National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh. She has since curated several other exhibitions on aspects of her father’s work including a joint exhibition of wood engravings with Richard Shirley Smith at Harrow School, exhibitions at St Paul’s Boys School, and Newbury library. She is currently organising a series of Reynolds Stone centenary exhibitions. Emma lives in London.
